A while ago, I demonstrated in pastels to the Alcester
Art for All group, and drew Puffins for them.

They were a lively group, and appreciated the technical
details about pastels I gave them, as well as the drawing.

I’ve done a number of drawings and paintings of
Puffins, and find them very popular - they have a slightly
comical look, and are often called “Clowns of the Sea”,
so this is what I have titled the work.
This was inspired by a visit to the Farne Islands in
Northumbria, where I shall be visiting soon for my
annual trip.

I didn’t have time to complete the work during my
demonstration, but after some more time working
on it, I’m quite pleased with the results.
