Kittiwakes nesting on cliff ledges

Kittiwakes at Cullernose

04/07/2018
I recently visited Blaby Society of Artists near Leicester,
and demonstrated for them in pastel.

Having enjoyed the sight of kittiwakes nesting on ledges on the steep cliffs
at Cullernose Point in Northumberland, I decided to make a
diagonal composition featuring some of the birds that I saw
in their different positions, including one bird
making the characteristic cry of "Kittiwake! Kittiwake!"

The Art Society were very interested both in hearing about the wildlife
and in my techniques, and asked many searching questions.

There wasn't time to completely finish in the evening,
but after a few more hours work later, I was quite happy with the results.
