In March I visited RSPB Middleton Lakes in the Midlands, because they
have a well-established heronry in a stand of old oak trees, and I wished
to see the herons coming and going to their nests.
They were certainly busy, and were bringing even more twigs and branches
to add to the huge piled nests, but I couldn't see if there were any fledglings
yet - because of the chilly spring, they may be later than usual.
The herons in the twiggy trees made strong graphic patterns, and have
given me some ideas for future work.
